The tragedy of this entire media trial is, we're not getting the facts:
The so-called scam at Sukna is a hogwash to 'fix' the Generals. In this particular case, there has been NO Financial TRANSACTION at all. NO LOSS of property to the Army. The Land belongs to the West Bengal Government. Then, how is it a scam???

We wonder, a freaking NATIONAL HIGHWAY runs trough the Sukna garrison. What Security are we talking about???
If at all, then one should wonder about the supposed facts reaching the media before the COI is even concluded. What about security threats that the Eastern Army Command seems to be leaking on all fronts?
A Court of Inquiry report that has not reached the ARMY HQ is on the internet - all over the world. What a joke in the name of Security.
We ask the wrong questions, and that's why ... the Eastern Army Commander does not have to bother with answering the questions at all. He comes clean as the next Army Chief.. and yet, he is the biggest Scamster of them all. We welcome you to keep on the good job of hoodwinking the Indian public.

Dangerous Precedents
The trial by press of senior army generals in the face of vehement denials of the army top brass of having come to any conclusion as yet, seems to have been orchestrated by vested interests out to malign the images of senior officers for personal vendetta. The questions that agitate the mind are
1. why was the timing of the COI such that Lt Gen Rath could be prevented from joining the designated post?
2. When the Army Commander, Eastern Command, knew of the issuance of the NOC why did he keep quiet for so long?
3. Who leaked the libelous canards to the press to go to town falsely claiming things which had not taken place? Eg. :The officers have been indicted, The promotion has been cancelled, etc.
4. Why the Army Commander , Eastern Command did not deem it fit to appeal to the press to show restraint in reporting, leave alone countering the falsehood?
5. Is there some truth in the news report of the turf war between the Army Commander, Eastern Command and the present Army Chief? If yes, then is this the fallout of that tussle? If yes, then only God can help our country.
6. Who is Mannu Pubby and who are his sources in the Army Eastern Command?
These are questions that are vital for a dispassionate appraisal of the performance of some of the highest ranking officials of the army and also for the security of the country. Hope the authorities concerned will find out, by instituting another COI if need be.

Backpedalling so soon?!!
The army stepped in, although extremely late, but it did and the comment it issued was to encourage the media to stop the trial it was parallely conducting. And overnight the slanderous comments being made about the top brass of the army have been wiped off the pages and screens, as if they were never there.
Lt.Gen V.K. Singh, has been conveniently forgotten and no questions raised about his involvement. Now as the news is off the headlines, his name will be safely tucked away making his escape easier and quieter. Where is his explaination in demanding the NoC withdrawn, in being aware of all the decision making, in making baits out of the persecuted and maligned Army men to settle his personal score with the Army Chief for being overlooked for a "plum posting". The reward of the Army Chief designate is coming a bit too late to make him forget old slights and this is how he can get back at the current Chief, by destroying his men.
This seemed to have grabbed zero media attention and no prompting either.
"Meanwhile, replying to another query on purchase of large tracts of land in Barmer near Pakistan border, the Defence Minister said, "a detailed inquiry has been ordered into these land transactions and Home Ministry is also closely monitoring the investigations in coordination with Rajasthan government."
A private company Pearl Agrotech Corporation Limited had reportedly purchased 20311 bighas of land in 681 deals spread over several years beginning 2002-03 in the notified area of Barmer district, he added."
The Army Eastern Command, being quoted specifically as a source of information by HeaDLINES Today, has orchestrated this entire deal, including startegically leaking false reports to the media and practically implicating Lt. Gen. Avdesh Prakash and Lt. Gen. P.K. Rath before the inquiry is even over. On some days, these men are indicted, on others, they are facing possible court martials,and sometimes, they are just disgracing the country. Singh not being pulled up for questions about the delay in the Court of Inquiry, his involvement, the press' high handedness?

Media mocks Army and Justice.
The media has let the public down again, and yet again, has the public happily been played.
Myth: “Scam”. The army never owned the land, it belonged to the West Bengal government.
Fact. It still does.
An NoC is No Objection Certificate, not the transfer of ownership as the media has twisted it out to be.
A scam is when there is an actual exchange of property, money or any compensation in return for any act. There was a NoC issued and then withdrawn. When no deal was made, where on earth did the scam arise from?
The media is blatantly misusing its liberty in a case where the questioned are defenceless, and it is having a freehand in making the most malicious, baseless allegations, and structurally and strategically destroying people. It has dramatized, sensationalized and severely prejudiced the entire story and played it out to the public, which in turn has already pronounced its judgement against Army Deputy Chief Designate Lt. Gen. P.K. Rath and Lt. Gen. Avdesh Prakash and others.
The sordid dramatization is as amusing as embarrassing. The word “allegations” is muttered, the “shame, “guilt” and “will be punished”, is yelled out loud. Who pronounced the judgement. The army hasn’t made its report public. The ministry of defence hasn’t commented excepting saying that the strictest punishment will be meted out. How is the media going about building a story and possible consequences, including suggesting a court martial? The media deserves to be put under the scanner for attempting to prejudice and unfairly influence justice. But as there is no court here pronouncing an injunction order, the media has a field day. Of course, they never learn from their old mistakes. These men are being questioned, they have an equal chance of walking out spotless from this as much of being found guilty. But our omniscience must pre-empt the truth, we will predict and pronounce guilt.
Has the media found out about the need of educational institutions in Sukhna? The actual causes behind the NoC being given? Have they showed anything at all about what Lt. Gen. P.K. Rath has done in his command of 33 Corps for the region? The media claimed the possession of a copy of the MoU, has it got the records of the NoC, the records of the alleged orders being passed across, about the much promised “plum posting”? Where is the man who ordered the NoC to be withdrawn, Lt. Gen. V. K. Singh? Where are his comments? Who is leaking all the contorted garbage to the media and why is that not questioned, at all? By no distinguished defence analyst, no sane media reporter with an ounce of ethics, and nobody from the institution itself .
Lt. Gen. P.K. Rath’s character has been assailed and damaged beyond repair and there has been no shred of evidence produced by any of the presiders?
If the “70 acre” land is exactly where it is, if the “290 crores” were never paid up, the NoC was withdrawn and no consent given and nothing ever changed hands, then where is the blasted ‘scam’? The media and its fanatics must stop using scandalizing words to add trauma to injury.
Lt. Gen P.K. Rath, decorated with the AVSM, having served in the Indian Army for 38 years, his silence is being misconstrued for admission of guilt. For 38 years, the man deserves to be honoured for his service, and overnight, they find this hidden under his carpet? The Army must be needing serious working on its recruitment then? Every step in the actual proceedings has been recorded and everybody, including Lt. Gen. V.K.Singh, were aware of it since April 2009, why the strategic wait till Lt. Gen. Rath is ready to make his move for the promotion? Is it the building up to the moment to cause the maximum orchestrated damage, and use a flippant media to build up the smoke without the fire?
Why doesn’t Lt. Gen. V.K. Singh step up, be the real “gentleman” and clear the air with his much awaited comments instead of spreading catchy slogans in the media like “Why did the generals get interested in real estate when on the sensitive sino-indian border?” Sadly, the Army is watching a mockery being made out of itself in the circus the media has played this out to be.
The pandering and the meaningless pseudo intellectual debates which the tv channels insist on indulging in, must stop, in the interests of justice, fairness and good conscience, let justice take its course, let truth prevail, and allow every man his personal dignity.
